"Scrap Metal Recycling"
Help Be A Part Of The Solution, Not Part Of The Problem.
Scrap Metal Recycling will never cease to exist nor should we ever want it to if we want to continue to utilize its resource the way that we do. Steel is unique in the way that pretty much all of it contains some amount recycled steel.
"Be Environmentally Conscientious"
Millions of tons of scrap metal every year are recycled. Steel mills add the scrap metal into their production of new steel products, which include automobiles right down to the steel cans that come from our homes.
All new steel produced contains up to and even beyond 25% steel scrap. That is huge to our environment! Mother Nature would thank you out load if she could but she thanks us in other ways every day with cleaner waters and cleaner air.
With automobiles, after the usable parts that are taken and placed on the market, the shredding of the auto’s body, makes it a very desirable steel scrap for the mills to use.
At home with cans and other steels that are used and discarded, we can use most of that material right away and use it to make some more.
Scrap metal recycling goes on all over the world, and it is hard to get a hold of internationally at times because its consumption is primarily by the country where it resides.
I know that in America we tend to direct every bit of it that is in the center of our continent to the mills that require it here.
If you are lucky enough, or unlucky enough depending on how you look at it, to be in the scrap metal business and you are looking to obtain scrap here then you have to work hard to get a piece of the action before it is all gone. The coasts are the best bet; everything else is going to a mill right here for the most part.
"Shooting For An A+"
Scrap metal recycling is bigger than any other type of recycling in our country. Even though we recycle much of what we got we could always use just a bit more, all of the time. About 2 out of 3 pounds of the new steel that we produce is from scrap metal.
It would be great if we could simply make 100% of our new steel out of recycled scrap. However, there seems to be more and more people showing up in the maternity wards and so with population growing and some of the steel that we produce going to buildings that will stand for a century or more, we have to continue to use what is call virgin steel until we come up with an alternative solution
On the other pages on this website I try to encourage the purchase of steel building kits so that when they are torn down they can be made into another home for another person or be used to produce our next car. If done correctly we can continue to utilize the same materials for as long as we need them, which at this point is for as far as I can see.
Let’s do our part in the process of scrap metal recycling so that we are all part of the solution and not part of the problem.
